Yes, I know I’m pointing out the obvious. But it is October 1. The first day of a new month and the first day of the final quarter of 2013. Some people like to do “check-ins” with themselves to see where they stand if they set goals for the year or the month. I’ve never really done anything like that. To me, the first of the month is just the beginning of a new month. It reminds me how quickly the previous month went (Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur, Finn’s first trip to the dog park, beginning of the Paleo challenge, Jacksonville, NJ for 18 hours) and how the year is just flying by. October signifies true autumn. Yes, September is associated with fall as school starts up again; but, it is technically still summer until September 23. October is truly official fall with the acorns on the ground (they started falling a few weeks ago) and the changing colors of the leaves. The weather should start getting cooler (it was in the low 80s here today) and the days are getting increasingly shorter.
So, here’s to October 1. I wish you all a good month.
How do you celebrate the beginning of a new month or quarter?
