I was helping my friend’s daughter study for the Algebra 2 & Trig Regents exam on Monday night. When we finished, I told her to continue studying the next night and I’d be available to help her via text and phone. I could pull the Regents exams up on my laptop then text her back explanations and solutions.
When I got home from the WOD and a trip to the Sunglass Hut inside my local Macy’s (more on that soon) last night, I turned on my laptop to find a solid white screen. It’s a known issue with the VGA cable in the first generation of my laptop model, the Lenovo Thinkpad X1 Carbon (that’s it above). I’m just glad it’s a white screen and not the blue screen of death.
The white screen happened two weeks ago for the first time while I was at work. The IT guys were able to fix it. This time, they can’t. Thankfully, tech support offers on-site service and will be here tomorrow. In the meantime, I’m working on a temporary laptop and it’s completely messing up my game at work. I’m using webmail instead of Outlook. I don’t have any of my documents handy. I’m on two screens instead of 3. Tasks that normally take seconds to complete now take minutes.
I’m doing the best I can to stay on top of e-mail but webmail doesn’t automatically update on receipt the way Outlook does. My productivity has gone out the window; hence, the blog post at work.
Tell me, what do you do when your laptop/computer isn’t functioning and you are at work?
